Some shelves are styled, and the best ones are loved. Den™ is a ten-centimetre bear carved from one block of wood, with the knife facets still visible, holding a balloon on a fine wire stem, as if celebrating nothing in particular. Each one is whittled and painted by hand, so the tilt of the head and the grain under the paint are never quite the same. Stand him next to a stack of books or on a desk that takes itself too seriously, or give him to someone who needs a small, unreasonable amount of delight.

Kura

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp, because wood moves with moisture. Handle it by the bear and not by the stem of the balloon.

Does each piece differ?

Yes. Each bear is carved and painted by hand, so the facets, the grain and the expression differ slightly from the photos. That variation is intended.

Is it meant as a toy?

No. It is a decorative ornament with a thin wire stem and is not suitable for young children to play with.

Which style should I choose?

The white bears stand out against wood shelves and dark walls. The walnut bear blends into a natural, Japandi-style room. The red balloon is the boldest of the three.

Will the balloon bend or break?

The stem is fine wire and bends if forced. Lift the ornament by the bear's body and the stem stays upright and straight.

How do I keep the wood in good condition?

Dust it now and then, and keep it out of direct sun and away from humid places such as bathroom shelves. It needs no oils or sprays.
